Child Labour
What is child labour?
- Any form of work which deprieve the children from their childhood and keep them away from schooling or any form of physical ,mental work done by children below the age of 18 years is called child labour.
ILO issued conventions regarding child labour.
1)convention 182 - Worst form of child labour
- Adopted in 1999
- It prohibits -sexual exploitation.
-Trafficking.
-Deployment of children in armed
conflict.
2)Convention 138 - also called as
minimum age convention-talks about threshold age of child labour.

These 2 conventions help to over through
children from hazardous work environment and to join them to education.
Ø
First time in ILO 101 years history a
universal ratification of convention 182.
Ø
India ratified convention 138
&182 in 2017.
Enormous challenges:
- UN Report: There are 152mn child labour
worldwide out of them 72mn are in hazardous works.
- Goal: total abolition of child labour by 2025.
ILO:
- International labour Organization.
- Founded in 1919-Under league of Nations.
- HQ: Geneva, Switzerland.
- Got Noble peace prize in 1969.
